Nicole Kidman’s mother has passed away. She left the Venice Film Festival, and the award for Best Actress for her role in the film Babygirl was accepted on her behalf by director Halina Reijn.

On stage, Reijn read a statement from Kidman, revealing that she couldn’t attend due to her mother’s death:
“I just want to say that my beautiful and brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has passed away, and that’s why I couldn’t attend. I’m in shock. I need to go home to be with my family. This award is for her. She shaped me, guided me, and nurtured me. I’m more than proud to say her name in front of you. The intersection of art and life is heartbreaking. My heart is broken.”
The cause of death remains unknown, as Nicole had kept her mother’s health private in recent years.
